Nutmeg co-founder Nick Hungerford died at the end of last week, aged 43.
In 2019, Hungerford had been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer.
He founded charity Elizabeth’s Smile, named after his daughter, to provide resources for children who lose a parent.
A spokesperson for Nutmeg said: “It is with great sadness that we confirm today that Nick Hungerford, Nutmeg co-founder and one of Britain’s most successful fintech entrepreneurs, has passed away at the age of 43.
“Nick was passionate about helping to empower people to achieve their full potential – through Nutmeg, he hoped to democratise wealth management and start a journey that would change the retail investment sector in the UK.
“It is a mission we all aim to deliver every day.”
“On behalf of all Nutmeg colleagues, past and present, we are incredibly proud of the journey Nick started, everything achieved so far and the opportunity we have to continue to help people manage their money in the future.”
Giovanni Dapra, the founder and chief executive of Nutmeg's competitor robo-adviser Moneyfarm, said: "I had the opportunity to share some of our entrepreneurial journeys starting with a nice beer in Clapham over 10 years ago.
"Even as a competitor, Nick has alway been generous in sharing ideas and perspectives on how to make Wealth Management work for the better of the customers and not only of the firm itself."
Before Nutmeg, Hungerford worked as a wealth manager at Barclays and Brewin Dolphin, where he saw the gaps and lack of accessibility to investing for the general population.
With a vision to democratize investing, he founded and led Nutmeg, which was acquired by JPMorgan in 2021.
Hungerford sold his stake in Nutmeg back in 2020 and most recently was a partner at Portage, an investment platform for fintechs.
“On behalf of all Nutmeg colleagues, past and present, we are incredibly proud of the journey Nick started, everything achieved so far and the opportunity we have to continue to help people manage their money in the future,” the Nutmeg spokesperson said.
