Financial planning firm launches DFM arm with Vanguard

A chartered financial planning business has launched a discretionary fund management arm in collaboration with Vanguard and Redington.

Rosebridge has launched Rosebridge Asset Management Limited, whose custom active and passive portfolios will be available on AJ Bell’s institutional platform.

The launch marks the first custom model portfolios solutions that Vanguard has entered into in the UK.

Phil Rose, chief executive officer of RAML, said the UK financial planning community is “striving” for this.

“I believe we will see larger mid-market financial advice companies, not only build bespoke relationships with global investment firms, but also with platform providers to help increase efficiencies, reduce costs but most importantly enhance the service level agreements offered to consumers,” he said.

Rose said the process of developing the DFM arm has taken two years, and the firm’s investment committee includes Graham Harrison, group chairperson of Asset Risk Consultants, Peter Bickley, the former chief strategist at Deutsche Bank UK, and Mark Harris, the former Henderson fund of funds manager.

“These bespoke relationships will ensure RAML’s investment solutions remain relevant and appropriate for the ever-changing investment landscape both now and in the future.”

Rose said the status of AJ Bell as a FTSE250 listed company “greatly reduces” the risk of a private equity takeover.

“In our experience such events have caused significant upheaval, client uncertainty and poor service outcomes – this is something we wish to try and avoid.

“While it has been a long and at times difficult process, we believe the bespoke relationships we have forged will place our innovative range of risk rated active and passive investment solutions ahead of those available within the wider financial planning community.”
