Former 1825 duo set up Raymond James branch

Former 1825 duo Tony Moss and Robert Goldschmidt have reunited to set up a new Raymond James branch in London.

Based at the Barbican, the pair will be joined by multi-asset experts Simon Evan-Cook and David Jane who will be sitting on the firm’s investment committee.

Chartered financial planners Moss and Goldschmidt worked together for twenty five years and co-founded Cumberland Place Financial Management which was acquired by 1825, the financial planning arm of Standard Life Aberdeen, in 2018.

The pair ran Cumberland Place for approximately 19 years before leaving in January.

Evan-Cook will be guiding them in constructing client portfolios and fine-tuning their investment proposition, while Jane, who was the ex-head of equities at M&G and has been the multi-asset manager at Premier Miton since 2014, will also sit on the investment committee.

He was previously a member of the Cumberland Place investment committee where he worked with the pair.

Moss said: “Robert and I have worked together for many years and over that time we have learnt to surround ourselves with talent and expertise, which is exactly what we are doing with this new business.

“While some firms are delaying returning to in-person contact and may be looking at a digital offering instead, many clients prefer face-to-face meetings especially when their needs are complex.

“We are ready to give them the personal care and attention they deserve and look forward to welcoming them to our new offices.”

Meanwhile, Joanna Danes, former investment manager at Charles Stanley and Barclays Wealth, is also joining the team from the outset.

Danes has 20 years’ experience working with private clients and Court of Protection investment, which will be an area of expertise for the new branch.

Goldschmidt added: “It is a very interesting time to be starting a new business. The pandemic has reminded us all of the importance of the job we do.

“We are very excited to be working with Raymond James, whose client centric approach echoes our own.

“We have worked closely with Raymond James for 15 years and we respect the ‘can do’ attitude that everyone we encounter in their business portrays.

“Their setup allows us to run our own business with the backing and oversight of a highly reputable Fortune 500 company.”

In December last year, Raymond James opened a new branch in East London to be led by former Killik & Co associate investment director Simon Howland, to provide a discretionary managed portfolio service to clients across the UK.

A month earlier, the firm launched a Manchester branch with three former Brown Shipley employees.
